Blackpackers seeks a Program Assistant to assist with our legacy outdoor programming bringing equitable access to the outdoors for Black individuals and families across Colorado.
This is a Hybrid/WFH role with monthly travel to program sites across the front range. Candidates must be able to work out of our Colorado Springs, CO offices & Gear Locker part of the week, though administrative work may be performed anywhere in Colorado that you have WIFI. Weekly hours will be program-dependent.
The Program Assistant will assist with delivering high-quality programming, building relationships with participants and community partners, and ensuring program improvement through data-driven evaluation. This position will be critical in helping strengthen the Blackpackers’ program operations.
The Program Assistant provides operational and logistical support for the program team and Blackpackers’ various indoor and outdoor programs. The Program Assistant works closely with the Program Manager and Executive Director to conduct day-to-day operations for programming, tabling, and coordinating Blackpackers’ multiple programs.
Job Description
- Participate in programming including camping, swimming, hiking, skiing, snowboarding, backpacking, and climbing
- Provide administrative support to Program Managers and other team members including maintaining records, CRM management, and other administrative tasks
- Assist with the planning and management of program events such as meetings, workshops, and tabling including set up and breakdown of events or creating and maintaining program schedules.
- Bridge communication between program participants, Program Manager, and managerial staff.
- Assist with information management for the program team including organizing, compiling, and processing information from participants, sponsors, and donors
- Assist Program Managers with the development, implementation, and management of program evaluation tools, techniques, and methods to measure the quality and impact of Blackpackers’ programs
- Energize volunteers for each program based on bespoke needs
- Distribute program brochures and flyers to promote the organization and our programs.
- Assist with planning and administrative tasks for Hiker Trash Prom and other large events and programs such as the Camp Shady Brook and the Arapahoe Basin ski trip.
- Attend events and follow up with those interested in getting involved as donors or participants.
- Social media creation, editing, and scheduling for programs through participant interviews, photos, and videos during partner events, for partner appreciation and demonstrating community engagement.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- 2+ years of proven experience in outdoor/indoor programming
- Strong organizational and time management skills to successfully manage multiple overlapping programs
- Should be a reliable and diligent worker who can sit, stand, lift, and move around for long periods
- Experience in program management, implementation, and measurement
- Interest in outdoor equity
- Creative problem solver with the ability to handle challenges with patience and understanding
- Ability to work independently and think on your feet
- Working knowledge of CRM and program management software

WORK ENVIRONMENT & LOCATION
Work will be a hybrid of in-person training and work in our Colorado Springs office along with opportunities to work from home. This position also requires time spent outdoors with program participants.
