For many of our program participants, it’s their first time camping, coming to a state park, climbing, skiing, snowboarding… and we don’t take that responsibility lightly. We want to make sure someone’s first outdoor experience with us is a positive one because we want them to feel empowered to continue trying new activities. This past weekend, Mia came out with us on her birthday weekend to camp at Barr Lake State Park and kayak on the lake, it was such a good time. Have you had a desire to be more active in our community? This Saturday the 19th, 9am-11am, Join Blackpackers as we lend a helping hand to the Sand Creek Trail, which we adopted in 2022.

Blackpackers will continue our vision for this trail to be accessible and enjoyable to all who use it!

Get more UP with Blackpackers on Saturday August 26th from 4-6pm at @climbcityrock in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This program runs monthly and we love seeing new and returning faces as more skills are acquired and new challenges are conquered!

Well here’s your chance to end on a high note! Saturday and Sunday, September 2-3, we are having a Labor Day Camp out at beautiful @barrlakestatepark in Brighton, Colorado. We are grateful for Barr Lake State Park’s Employees for welcoming us and providing the space for endless opportunities to make new, lasting memories.

🗓 On Saturday, September 16 we will have a mini workshop at @lilmissstoryhour & @knobhillurbanarts 2nd Annual Back to School Culture Festival starting at 12:30pm 📖🐛

🎉This festival is located in the heart of Knob Hill and celebrates the culture and heritage of local community members. Everything from story time to food trucks, entertainers, workshops, a petting zoo (and More!) can be found at this free community event.

🎉We have a *NEW DATE* for our trail clean up! 🚮  Bring your friends and join Blackpackers on the last day of July as we work to keep the Sand Creek Trail clean and free of debris so we can all enjoy this piece of Colorado Springs!   🗓When? Monday, July 31st 6-8pm   📍Where to meet:  We will meet at the North end of the Gateway Village Shopping Center Parking Lot - (near the Concentra Urgent Care and Jiffy Lube)

We have two awesome events coming up this week! 📣

🍃First, Blackpackers will be joining in the Stroll and Stewardship Cleanup at the Sand Creek Trail, which we adopted last year. This is being held Friday from 6-8pm so that we all have a little time to throw in some extra support to the trail system that so many of us use! 🥾

🧗🏿‍♂️Then we have our July Climb Night Saturday from 4-6pm at @climbcityrock climbing gym in downtown Colorado Springs.

Climb with Blackpackers in July!   Join our FREE climbing program at CityRock Climbing Gym located in Downtown Colorado Springs on Saturday, July 8th from 4-6pm.
 Led by Jay, you will see a familiar friendly face and be able to connect with local community members as we go more up, together!   There is no cost to join, but registration is required.

July 22 - Aug 5
BOSS (Blackpackers’ Outdoor Skills School) courses will be highlighting our pilot year at @camp_shady_brook with WFR, WFA, & Outdoor Skills courses.

August (Date TBD)- Back to School Campout at @barrlakestatepark with a weekend full of fun activities for the whole family. Past camp outs have included camping, fishing, nature center interactions, and a cookout.

Blackpackers’ is excited to be back at @climbcityrock Climbing Gym for Summer!   This month, you will see a familiar face shifting into the facilitator role. As the program set out to accomplish, we have had incredible participants show initiative in their movement through the program. Just as Nikki did before him, Jay has attended each climb night, has expanded his skills, and is ready to climb with you!

Saturday June 10th from 4pm-6pm join us at @climbcityrock in Colorado Springs for this free event.

“I’m trying to provide those skills to people to empower people,” she said. “But also these are entry-level outdoor skills and Colorado has a huge outdoor economy, and so if I can give people Leave No Trace, if I can give people wilderness first response, they’re going have a better chance of breaking into the industry.”

The workshops are open to adults as well as high school-age kids across the country and they are, of course, free to attend.”
